posted on: Aug 7, 2022

The world cup in Qatar is getting closer each day and for us Arab americans. The USA has made it into the world cup and due to this the interest in America is going to be higher than in a long time.

Since the world cup is being played in Qatar several concessions have had to be made to be able to host the game. First and foremost is the fact that Qatar is extremely hot. Due to this the games are having to be played in November when the temperatures are at acceptable levels for play. In this text we’re going to give you a brief runthrough of how everything will work at the World Cup, regardless of whether or not it’s going to be one of your first times tuning in or if you spend every week betting on europa league picks.

A controversial world cup

The world cup in Qatar is extremely controversial. It has more or less been proven that Qatari officials bribed their way into the bid to host the World Cup, and the scandals and human rights violations have been constant. Due to this many countries have threatened to boycott the entire tournament, though none of these threats have been realized.

Then there is the practical side of things. Qatar is no way you twist and turn it, a tad too hot to be able to host high level football. This has been remedied by placing the tournament, which is traditionally held in July, in November and massive AC’s have been installed in the stadiums.USA has made it into the World Cup.

The US men’s national team has for quite some time been overshadowed by the much more successful women’s team. After some years of struggle they have finally managed to qualify for the world cup and will face off against Wales, England, and Iran.

Two sides of the same coin

On one hand, this is a world cup that most likely never should have been awarded to Qatar. On the other hand, the now disgraced FIFA official Michele Platini’s words ring true “this is an opportunity for a part of the world that has never hosted a big international tournament to really shine”. We must not forget how it came to be that the tournament is hosted in Qatar, but there is little to no things that can be done this close to kick off in the first game. The final set in Doha is bound to be a spectacle beyond belief.
