Before the Syrian war, Aleppo was a city of culture and arts thousands of years old. This city boasted architecture, bazaars, world class malls and hotels, every manner of attraction. Now, they are all gone. Thousands of years of architecture, history and culture, destroyed in the blink of an eye by bombs falling from above. We have compiled 28 photos of Syria and its beautiful sites, before and after the war.

Editor’s note: In 19 July 2012 an ongoing military confrontation began in Aleppo, the largest city in Syria, as a part of the Syrian Civil War. It was marked by the Syrian army’s use of barrel bombs dropped from helicopters, killing thousands of people and forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate. This battle has caused catastrophic destruction to the Old City Of Aleppo, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
