The Art of Giving: ACC Celebrates 29 Years of Service

posted on: Aug 18, 2008

The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC) will host its 29th Annual Civic and Humanitarian Awards Gala at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center at 6 p.m. Sept. 13.

Every year the non-profit human services organization sets the stage for a unique and prestigious event to honor extraordinary individuals and organizations who are visionaries in their respectful areas of work.

This year, ACC is dedicating its annual fundraiser to honoring foundations that through their philanthropic endeavors have joined ACC in the development of the Seven Mile Initiative. Proceeds from the gala work throughout the year to support ACC’s many programs and services, helping to fulfill our mission to support the overall well-being of the community.

ACC is privileged to have Dr. Richard Florida, Author of the best selling book The Rise of the Creative Class, as its special guest and keynote speaker. Dr. Florida is one of the world’s leading public intellectuals. Esquire Magazine recently named him one of the Best and Brightest in America. Detroit Economic Club President and CEO Beth Chappell will emcee the evening’s program.

The evening’s honorees have been chosen based on their contributions to the city and their dedication to rebuilding communities and lives across Detroit. This year’s 2008 honorees are:

* Comerica Charitable Foundation
* DTE Energy Foundation
* John S. and James L. Knight Foundation
* The Skillman Foundation
* United Way for Southeastern Michigan
Non Profit Facility Center

“It gives us great pleasure to recognize these generous foundations who believed in our mission on Seven Mile,” said ACC President and CEO Haifa Fakhouri.
