Warm Up to Nov-Dec Events at Arab American National Museum

posted on: Nov 8, 2012

It’s that time of year again. Daylight Saving Time has kicked in. The leaves gotta get raked and holiday tasks beckon. Despite all the hustle and bustle, the Arab American National Museum (AANM) stands ready to make your season a little brighter with winter fun and gift options galore.

From 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, the AANM presents a Holiday Pop-Up Shop with deals on a wide range of unique gifts items including stylish keffiyeh (scarves) in a rainbow array of color combinations, intricate Palestinian embroidery and, brand-new to the Museum Store, a line of stunning Phoenician-style art glass from the West Bank. Shoppers will also enjoy complimentary refreshments and delightful live music to shop by. Can’t make it to the Pop-Up Shop? Purchases made by/on Dec. 15 at the online Museum Store will be delivered in time for the holidays.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, as the Holiday Pop-Up Shop is winding down, the Museum’s Global Fridays series cranks up with the Arab Women of Comedy + Token Male, standing in for the previously announced performer, Jordanian vocalist Macadi Nahhas. Produced by Sarah Bazzi, this laughfest is headlined by a very funny lady from Montreal known as Eman, and features special guests Chicago comedienne MoNa and from Los Angeles, Mike “Token Male” Batayeh as the evening’s host. The tonic effect provided by this comedic event just might soothe you through the entire holiday season. Tickets are just $10 online and at the door; $9 for Museum Members.

Then, a few weeks later on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 2-4:30 p.m., get the kids out of the house and into the spirit at the AANM’s popular annual Frost Fest Family Party. The Museum’s Community Courtyard gets all decked out in its winter finery, setting the scene for children’s crafts, games, Kid Karaoke, a decorate-a-cookie station and a pizza lunch. Adults are admitted free; children’s tickets are $7 in advance online and $8 at the door. Raffle tickets, for prizes such as TVs and computer games, are sold on site during the event for $1 each.

Admission to the Nov. 16 Holiday Pop-Up Shop is free; shop the Museum Store 24/7 at www.arabamericanmuseum.org/Museum+Store.id.32.htm. Tickets for Global Fridays and Frost Fest are available online at www.arabamericanmuseum.org and at the door.
