AAPAC to Honor Retiring Congressional Leaders Carl Levin and John Dingell, Mayor Duggan at Annual Banquet Wednesday
The Arab American Political Action Committee (AAPAC) will host its 17th Annual Banquet this Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bint Jebail Cultural Center, 6220 Miller Road in Dearborn, MI. Prominent local and national politicians, including both candidates for governor are expected to attend the largest political event in the Arab community.
This year, AAPAC will honor Congressman John Dingell, U.S. Senator Carl Levin, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and the Executive Director of the Council of American Islamic Relations in Michigan (CAIR-MI) Dawud Walid.
Dingell and Levin, who will be retiring at the end of their current term, are distinguished Congressional leaders with a combined tenure of more than 90 years of dedicated service. Duggan will be recognized for his commitment to Detroit’s revitalization and Walid for his relentless advocacy for equality and civil rights.
Over the last few months, numerous candidates sought AAPAC’s endorsement for the midterm elections. Members of the organization interviewed several candidates running in crucial local and statewide races.
AAPAC endorsed those who they determined to best serve our communities, cities, state and country for the upcoming Nov. 4 election.
AAPAC is engaged in an ongoing effort to increase voter turnout and political engagement among Arab Americans. The banquet will be an opportunity for the organization to connect politicians with its base of supporters.
The two gubernatorial candidates for governor, Rick Snyder and Mark Schauer, both whom have requested the endorsement of AAPAC, are expected to attend the event.There are hundreds of thousands of Arab Americans living in Metro Detroit and those running for office recognize the importance of their support as a deciding factor in elections.
