ADC Michigan Announces Awardees for Annual Awards Gala

ADC Michigan is pleased to announce the distinguished award recipients who will be honored at its upcoming Annual Awards Gala on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 6:00 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan.

The 2011 Award Recipients include:

Kim Redigan and Reverend William Gepford will receive the ADC Michigan Building Bridges Award. Kim is a long time Michigan Peace Team member who has been at the forefront of fighting for justice and civil liberties at home here in the US and abroad. Reverend Gepford of the Littlefield Presbyterian Church is a long time advocate of building bridges of understanding and commonalities to create and sustain peaceful neighborhoods and communities.

Laila El-Haddad, activist, blogger and author of Gaza Mom will be the recipient of the ADC Michigan Literary Leadership Award. Laila brings humor, honesty, and truth to a grim and dire situation that plagues the people of Gaza through her literary depiction of life in Gaza.

Fordson the Movie gave us an up close and personal look at an all American High School football team whose members practiced their Islamic faith while excelling in the all American sport. The movie’s producers Rashid Ghazi, Ash-har Quraishi and Basma Babar-Quraishi captured and delivered a true and accurate depiction of the triumphs and tribulations of life after 9/11 within the Muslim American community in Dearborn, Michigan. The movie’s producers will be the recipients of the ADC Michigan Trailblazer in Media & Entertainment Award.

Leila Fadel is an award winning American journalist currently serving as Cairo bureau chief for the Washington Post. Leila joined the Washington Post’s Middle East Team in 2011 and has been instrumental in creating much needed balance. She has been interviewed herself by many major news outlets and appeared on PBS’s Bill Moyer’s Journal while in New York to receive the George Polk Award for Foreign Reporting. Leila has subsequently covered the war in Iraq from 2005 -2009 as well as the 2006 Lebanon war. ADC is proud to announce Leila Fadel as the recipient of the ADC Michigan Excellence in Journalism and Foreign Reporting Award.

Renowned pianist and international sensation, Waleed Hawroni will grace us with his original score, Lebanese Rhapsody and is the recipient of the ADC Michigan Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award.
