ADC Now Accepting Summer 2009 Legal Intern Applications

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is now recruiting law students as Legal Associates for Summer 2009.

Please circulate this announcement to law students who might be interested. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2008. 1L students can mail or email their completed applications by January 12, 2009 in order to accommodate for the receipt of official transcripts.

DESCRIPTION:
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), which is non-sectarian and non-partisan, is the largest Arab American grassroots organization is the United States. It was founded in 1980 and has chapters nationwide. Through its Legal Department, ADC offers counseling in cases of discrimination and defamation and selected impact litigation in the areas of immigration.

DUTIES:
Interns are responsible for their own cases under the direct supervision of the ADC attorneys. Cases involve employment discrimination, immigration, airline discrimination, hate crimes, educational discrimination, public accommodation, housing, freedom of speech. Interns also represent the organization at various meetings and conferences with civil rights, human rights, as well as federal agencies and departments. ADC Summer Legal Associates are required to write a fifteen page law review style paper related to the issues that ADC handles. In addition, Summer Legal Associates will also be required to take part in the ADC Ibn Rushd Moot Court Competition and write accompanying briefs and memos in preparation for the competition.

REQUIREMENTS:
1L, 2L, 3L or LLM

PREFERRED COURSEWORK:
Constitutional law or seminar, employment law, immigration law and clinic experience, international law, other constitutional law seminars, legislative law, criminal law, torts.
