ADC to Recognize Ibrahim Dayeh with ADC Activist Award and Anna Baltzer with ADC Annual Rachel Corrie Memorial Award
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is pleased to announce that the 2009 ADC Annual Activist Award will be presented to Mr. Ibrahim Dayeh, Vice President of ADC San Diego Chapter at the upcoming ADC National Convention. The ADC Activist award is presented annually to an ADC member who demonstrates leadership, dedication and commitment to ADC and the Arab American community. Mr. Dayeh is longtime member of ADC and highly regarded leader and organizer in the Arab-American community of San Diego. The ADC Activist award is being presented to him because of his dedication and commitment to ADC and the Arab American community.
Also, ADC is pleased to announce that the 2009 Rachel Corrie Memorial Award will be presented to Ms. Anna Baltzer, a full time public speaker and organizer for justice in Palestine, in recognition of her courage and dedicated work for peace and justice. Biographic Information:
Ibrahim Dayeh has been an activist and organizer in the Palestinian and Arab-American community of San Diego for over 30 years. He is currently the Vice President of the ADC San Diego Chapter, past President and has been an active Board Member since 1992. He is also a founding member and past President of the House of Palestine, member of the San Diego Community Advisory Board to the Chief of Police, ADC liaison to the Mexican-American Foundation and member of the San Diego Coalition for Justice in Palestine. In addition to his political activism, Ibrahim is an active Board Member and Choir Director in St. Jacob Melkite Church in San Diego, CA.
Anna Baltzer is a Jewish American Columbia University graduate, former Fulbright scholar, author, the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees, and a full-time public speaker and organizer for justice in Palestine. As a volunteer with the International Women’s Peace Service in the West Bank, Baltzer documented human rights abuses and supported Palestinian-led nonviolent resistance to the Occupation. Baltzer has appeared on television more than 100 times and lectured at more than 300 universities, schools, churches, mosques, and synagogues around
the world with her acclaimed presentation, “Life in Occupied Palestine: Eyewitness Stories & Photos,” and her full-color book: “Witness in Palestine.” Baltzer recently returned from a trip through Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, documenting Palestinian life in the Diaspora.
