Arab Detroit is proud to announce that Reema Sam has been selected as the winner of the Eee PC 900 Mini Notebook Computer. Reema’s name was selected from over 2,000 email registrations collected by Arab Detroit at three recent events.

We asked Reema, who is a student at Eastern Michigan University, to share her thoughts regarding her Arab American heritage:

“In a world of wonderful entities, life celebrates a great deal of uniformity. Throughout history, much of what life has to offer, diversity has been crucial to an overall success of growth, prosperity and above all social connectivity. Being Arab American has impacted me positively in many dimensions, on a social level it has provided a channel to which I am able to plug my ideas, share my thoughts with those around me, and celebrate who I am comfortably and proudly.

My name is Reema Sam, a junior at Eastern Michigan University pursuing an Elementary Education degree in hopes that I may one day share one of life’s wonderful gifts; diversity, with the youth of the future. I’m Palestinian, a place I proudly call home. I cherish the fact that I am of Middle Eastern descent for many reasons. I have developed the ability to speak Arabic and English fluently, thus allowing me to retain a great deal of information while expanding my intellectual capacity. I feel as though I can connect with my American friends while keeping an Arab point of view on a variety of topics including literature, life style, politics, etc. Being bilingual does present some challenges, however, my ability to go from speaking English to Arabic has provided me the opportunity to better adapt to any environment swiftly without hesitation. I truly feel as though I have been given the best of both worlds in this society.

A global, diverse cohesion is seldom realized unless we are able to express our beliefs, acknowledge our identity, and staying positive. In a diverse world, it is becoming increasingly clear that rapid demo -graphic changes within the United States and around the world is shaping our lives from the food we eat, to the clothes we wear, music we listen to and people we interact with. Being Arab American has impacted me positively in every sense of the word for it has brought me closer to many people who may or may not share the same beliefs I value. In essence, I truly value my heritage for it has allowed me to build bridges and friendships from around the world.”

Arab Detroit congratulates Reema Sam on winning the Eee PC 900 Mini Notebook Computer. Mabrouk!
