A total of 40 hours spent on a plane, dashing from one shoot to another, is just another week on the job for Bella Hadid. But after she touched down in New York City yesterday, the supermodel brought in reinforcement to help her complexion bounce back. The first step towards jumpstarting her natural glow? A trip to the freezer for some ice cubes, per the instruction of rising makeup star Sam Visser.

“Bella had just come from a long week of being on flights, so we wanted to give her an instant refresh before another shoot,” explains Visser. “Prepping the face with an ice facial instantly wakes up and brightens the skin, while the cooling effect reduces inflammation and swelling.”

Visser also utilizes ice facials for a sculpting effect, massaging the frozen blocks along the planes of the face to tone and refine certain facial features. While Hadid doesn’t exactly need help in that department, she still glided the chilly cubes along her jawline, as well as upwards towards the high of the cheekbones and around the eyes. For those looking for a melt-proof alternative, Visser suggests submerging ReFa’s Carat Face Roller in ice water and using its two rounded prongs to gently knead the face to increase circulation and counteract puffiness.

To finish off Hadid’s glow, Visser mixed a minimal amount of foundation together with a lightweight primer “to sheer it out,” then added extra glow by blending Dior’s Diorskin Nude Luminizer Shimmering Glow Powder in warm gold Golden Glow along the contours of Hadid’s face. “An ice facial is important in the prep stages of makeup because it allows me to use less coverage on the skin, which is already awake and glowing,” explains Visser. Yielding a healthy complexion that shines on its own, an ice facial is a daily ritual worth considering for any skincare enthusiast—no matter how many frequent flyer miles you’ve accumulated.
