AMAR U.S. is a Washington DC-based non-profit providing health care, health education, and other education and training in Iraq and Lebanon. AMAR is on the ground today in Iraq and Lebanon, helping those most in need to rebuild their lives. Our all-local staff serve hundreds of thousands of their compatriots each month. But it is our aim to do so much more in these needy communities and to help others across the region to ensure a rise in health, education, and prosperity for all. AMAR U.S. is the new American affiliate of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation, a British charity which has been working since 1991 to provide health care and education to populations in need in conflict-affected areas in the Middle East. Today AMAR delivers over one million medical consultations each year in Iraq and Lebanon through a network of 35 health centers, helping a catchment area of over 600,000 men, women and children. In addition, AMAR runs programs to strengthen and educate the communities it serves, including Health Education in Schools, Democracy and Political Participation, and Women Health Volunteers programs. One thousand Iraqi widows benefit from an AMAR program to integrate them into the Iraqi economy through training in literacy and job skills. Another AMAR project taught the history and culture of the Iraqi marshlands to Marsh Arab refugees who had been separated from their homeland. AMAR recently began a project in Iraq
