Israel has complained for a long time that wait-times for U.S. visas currently top a year or more. Over the past few years, anxious Israeli leaders have been pressing the U.S. to join the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). A major complaint of the U.S. is Israel’s mistreatment of Palestinian Americans trying to return to their homeland via Israel. Arab Countries Elected to UN Human Rights Council – Sharing with Others the ‘Responsibility to Protect’ – Along with a Whiff of Hypocrisy

The UN General Assembly recently elected several new countries to the Human Rights Council. Arab countries Algeria, Morocco and Sudan all secured a high number of votes. Election of some states included those with a history of violating human rights and perpetrating atrocities at home or abroad. John Mason, contributing writer, reports that some country selections undermine the credibility of the HRC. An example is Saudi Arabia, who just got the boot from the Council.
