THE CITIZEN is Sam Kadi’s feature film debut and was inspired by actual events. Like the main character (Ibrahim) Sam is also an Arab who became a legal U.S. immigrant with the desire to live the American Dream. This American film was made by a team of international artists that each had their own very unique perspective on human rights and immigration. Khaled Nabawy our esteemed Egyptian lead, Cary Elwes our British star, and Sam a Syrian Writer/Director are all dedicated activists that have done work in areas such as the Middle East and Africa. THE CITIZEN is a message of hope, love, courage, and perseverance, a topic at the forefront of today’s new headlines.

The Citizen will premier locally this Friday, Sep 27 till Sun, Sep 29 at the Emagine Theatres in Novi & in Canton and at the Uptown-Birmingham 8 Theatre.

This opening weekend will decide if the movie will make it at the theaters or not. Please consider spreading the word and go watch it with your friends and family.

THE CITIZEN is making history by being the first Hollywood film led by an Arab star in a motion picture that highlights an Arab immigrant’s journey in capturing the American Dream. It is a unique opportunity to prove that one of our positive stories can make a successful motion picture.

The Citizen features an exceptional international cast that includes our acclaimed Egyptian actor Khaled Nabawy (Fair Game), Agnes Bruckner (Blood and Chocolate), William Atherton (Ghostbusters) and Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride).

The Citizen has already generated great buzz on the film festival circuit, winning five awards. The Huffington Post describes the film as, “Simply impossible to stop thinking about.” The Human Rights Department at Rutgers University in NY called it, “Break through and history in the making.”

Yearning to leave behind his life of misfortune in the Middle East, Ibrahim Jarrah wins the U.S Green Card Lottery for a chance to become an American citizen. He lands in New York City the day before 9/11 …and the events of the September terrorist attacks forever shape the struggles he faces on his journey to capture the American dream. Inspired by true events, filmmaker Sam Kadi’s feature debut is a gripping tale of courage, love, and perseverance, the qualities of a true CITIZEN.
