Dear Members,

The Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects – Capital Area (AAAEA – Capital Area), has extended its 2025 Scholarship Program deadline to Sunday, November 30th by 11:59 PM.

The scholarship program is open to undergraduate or graduate students in the fields of engineering, architecture, or information technology; with a preference given to undergraduate students. The objective is to promote engineering, architecture, and information technology as worthy professions and to foster stronger ties between the Association and the Arab American Community.

The number and value of the scholarship(s) will be decided every year based on the amount raised by the Education and Scholarship Committee of the AAAEA-Capital Area and will be presented at a function of the Association. Each scholarship will be awarded this year at an amount up to $1,000. The names of the awardees will be announced at an upcoming AAAEA-Capital area event around the end of the year. The awardees will receive a certificate and a check.

2025 SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

·Must be a Student Member of AAAEA – Capital Area or a child of a current member of the association.

·Must be an undergraduate or graduate student currently studying in the field of engineering, architecture or information technology at an accredited four-year College or University in the Capital Area (D.C., Maryland, Virginia).

·Have a minimum cumulative grade point average, GPA, of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

·Applicants must complete the AAAEA Scholarship Award Application and submit all required documents.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

35% – Essay

30% – Most Recent College Transcript (GPA)

20% – Extracurricular Activities

15% – Letter of Recommendation

 

The presentation quality criterion will be an assessment of the applicant’s submittal for neatness, organization, spelling and proper English usage.

 

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

 

Applicants must complete the AAAEA scholarship award application which consists of items 1 through 5 listed below and email it to president@aaaea-capital.org by Novemeber 30th with the subject line: Attention: Scholarship Program.

1.     Complete the application.

2.  Provide an official college transcript indicating course grades and cumulative grade point average. (This is required from everyone except freshmen who are required to submit their acceptance letter into a college of engineering program).

3.     Provide a letter of recommendation written by a faculty member (from the student’s field of study).

4.     Provide an adequate description of the applicant’s extracurricular activities. The description should highlight relevant work experience, publications, participation in AAAEA, student/campus activities, involvement in community organizations or a combination of these.

5.    Provide an essay addressing the applicant’s interest in his/her field of study, the most important issue currently being addressed in the applicant’s field, and the responsibility of the Engineers, Architects or Computer Scientists to society and to AAAEA.

If the Scholarship Committee deems it necessary, a fifteen-minute phone interview may be scheduled with the applicants.
