BAYTI, A Hospitality Experience and Exploration into Palestinian Food Erasure, Appropriation, Traditions, Foodways and Taste
Jinan Deena is a food educator on Palestinian cuisine and the intricacies of the occupation of Palestine and how it affects food sustainability and harvest. Through her events and pop-up Bayti, which means “My Home” in Arabic, Deena shares the recipes of her youth with a purpose- to educate and uplift Palestinian culture and heritage, while reclaiming the foods stolen and appropriated by the occupation and oppression of her people.
During this special evening of conversation and education, Jinan will serve a take on Palestine’s national dish, Msakhan, which is a flatbread topped with caramelized sumac onions and chicken or vegetables as well as an assortment of fruit juices.
