Literati is thrilled to welcome local author John Farah in celebration of his new book Imagine: A Palestinian’s Journey.
About The Book: This is the story of John Farah, a Palestinian who grew up in Jerusalem during turbulent times, then left in the Sixties to find a better life in America, winding up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, through a twist of fate. John’s journey takes us through the Twentieth Century’s most formative times. He lived through Israel’s 1948 war of independence and came of age among Jews, Muslims, and Christians in the Holy City, learning in very personal terms what it means to coexist.
As a student on the U of M campus, he experienced the turmoil of the Vietnam protests, Dr. King’s struggle for civil rights, the battle of the sexes, and even the modern fitness movement as it swept across the state – and the country. Along the way, he managed to find time to raise a family, become a dentist and learn to call Michigan his home.
This book is both a deeply personal and refreshingly honest portrayal of one man’s life, his successes and his failures, and a portrait of America and the Middle East over the past one hundred years.
Dr. John Farah founded Farah and Associates (presently Enspire Dental) in 1980 to provide personal and exceptional dentistry. In 1984 Dr. Farah launched The Dental Advisor, a publication that guided dentists in the use of the latest products and materials at their dental practices. He was an early practitioner of Cosmetic Dentistry and lectured about it worldwide for over 25 years. In 2006, Dr. Farah formed Apex Milling & Printing, an industry leader in CAD/CAM and digital dentistry. Outside of dentistry, John’s interests span a broad range, from photography, writing, and gardening to snowboarding and fitness. He has completed 137 marathons and over 400 road races in a 40-year running career. More years ago than he’d care to admit, Dr. Farah earned his D.D.S. and a joint Ph.D. in Aerospace and Biomaterials Engineering from the University of Michigan.
