Palestinian Oral Histories: Film Screenings & Discussion
Join in community for a special screening of Palestinian-directed short films alongside the oral history documentary Voices Across the Divide (2013), followed by a talk back with Boston-based physician, filmmaker, author, and Jewish American organizer Dr. Alice Rothchild.
Voices Across the Divide is a powerful documentary and oral history project examining the realities of Israeli occupation through personal stories of Palestinians forced to live outside of their home country.
Narrated by Alice Rothchild, an American Jew raised on the tragedies of the Holocaust and the dream of a Jewish homeland in Israel, the film follows her personal journey as she begins to understand Palestinian perspectives, exploring experiences of loss, occupation, statelessness, and immigration to the US. The documentary uniquely engages with Jewish history that includes the adverse ramifications of the founding of the State of Israel for the Palestinian people who bore the consequences. Palestinian interviewees speak powerfully of their trauma and resilience, and their call for political action to end the occupation.
