On October 7, 2023, Palestinian militants killed 1,200 people and seized many more as hostages in a Hamas-led attack in southern Israel. Israel responded with a grueling war on Gaza that has reportedly killed more than 30,000 Palestinians and pushed the population to the brink of famine.

What are the fundamental goals of Hamas and Israel, respectively, in the present conflagration, and how far have both sides come toward realizing their core aims? What impact have key outside players had in shaping the conflict and its potential aftermath both in Gaza and the broader region, particularly the United States, the Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia? What are the stakes for the Gulf Arab countries individually and collectively? How will the Palestinian national movement adapt to the ways in which the fighting is reshaping regional strategic and political calculations? What is the future of Gaza, and what kind of postconflict scenarios seem plausible or minimally acceptable? Will renewed international enthusiasm for a two-state solution have any long-term impact? And how will Israel respond to pressure to end fighting, ease humanitarian suffering in Gaza, and signal its renewed openness to the creation of a Palestinian state?

AGSIW continues its series of webinars looking at different perspectives on the post-October 7 crises destabilizing the Middle East, particularly the Gaza war, with a panel that will examine a range of Palestinian viewpoints.
