GOP Frontrunner Donald Trump to visit Israel

posted on: Dec 10, 2015

Quick on the heels of his bombastic pronouncement calling for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” the GOP presidential frontrunner Donald J. trump has announced an upcoming visit to Israel.

Israeli diplomatic correspondent Ido ben Baji reported that Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, the 28th of December, in an encounter scheduled “before Trump’s hateful comment on banning Muslims.”

Sources near the prime minister told Ben Baji that any American presidential candidate is welcome to a “brief” meeting with Netanayhu, who “does not agree with all opinions held by each of the candidates.”

Trumps comments caused consternation in the Arab world, including the Gulf Emirates, where Trump has extensive financial holdings in real estate and golf courses and has previously enjoyed support. http://www.themedialine.org/mideast-daily-news/trump-calls-for-total-complete-shutdown-of-muslims-entering-the-us/.

Israel has responded with flabbergasted perplexity. When asked to comment on the upcoming visit, Israel’s energy minister Yuval Steinitz, said that while the US and Israel share a common Islamist enemy, Israel respects the loyalty and importance of its Arab population, which numbers about 1,600,000 out of 8 million.

“Despite the world’s disgust with the statements made by Donald Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu will meet him later this month,” intoned Israel Army radio’s somber news announcer.
