LAHC to Serve Meals & Gifts to Homeless for the Holiday

posted on: Dec 23, 2015

Leaders Advancing & Helping Communities will host its annual holiday celebration at the Lutheran Social Services of Michigan-Wayne County Family Center, 30600 Michigan Ave.

As the cold winter weather continues and the holidays approach, the LAHC will serve a hot lunch at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 23 to more than 150 homeless adults and children in addition to providing them with food baskets, gifts and coats.

Santa Claus will also be on site to give children some holiday cheer and a proper welcoming into the holiday season as they receive their gift items.

“It is our hope that our community members will enjoy a hot meal surrounded with friends who care,” said LAHC Executive Director Wassim Mahfouz. “Every child should have the blessing of welcoming in the season with a smile and good spirit. With all the global suffering, it is our duty to ensure that those within our community, who have a restriction of means, are given the same respect and love that each of us would expect from our fellow brother and sister in humanity.”

Sponsors Byblos Banquet Hall, Barakah and Midwest Recycling and a generous group of individuals donated money and gift items to support the effort.

Providing humanitarian aid and assistance, especially during the cold weather, is something of great importance to the LAHC and its members, Mahfouz added. During the Thanksgiving holiday, the organization provided 1,000 turkeys and food baskets to families in need, in partnership with HYPE Athletics in Dearborn Heights.

Leaders Advancing & Helping Communities is a nonprofit human services organization dedicated to providing an array of services throughout southeast Michigan. The mission of the LAHC is to promote the educational, cultural, health and social affairs of the community.
