New Book "Faces of Egypt: Images and Observations"

posted on: Jan 14, 2014

For ten years, photographer Deborah Shea Doyle lived and traveled throughout Egypt—from bustling Cairo to remote parts of the Sinai region—exploring the landscape and learning about the lives of ordinary Egyptians, especially the Bedouins. She visited large cities and small villages and traversed the country’s most inaccessible areas, which presented her with a gold mine of opportunities to capture and record the faces of the people she encountered along the way.

Her splendid collection of photographs of Egyptian men, women, and children as they go about their daily lives invites readers to come to know and understand Egypt and its people as they have not before. The humanity captured through her expert lens is matched by her engaging text and observations that give readers insight into the local customs and habits.

Deborah Shea Doyle is a Florida-based photographer. She lived in Egypt for a decade, spending half her time in Cairo and the other half among the Bedouins in El Gorah in Northeast Sinai. Her photographs were exhibited widely, including a major exhibit at the American University in Cairo’s Sony Gallery.
