New Independent Music Label Nawa Recordings Launches with Focus on the Arab World

posted on: Sep 25, 2014

Nawa Recordings to launch with the release of Maurice Louca’s new album in November 2014. Louca’s latest work is a potential game changer for the independent Arabic music scene, taking his trademark whirlwind of hard-hitting electronic sounds and weaving them with acoustic performances from Arab and international artists. More information about this album will be announced shortly.

Founded by multi-instrumentalist musician and composer Khyam Allami, Nawa is born out of a deep-rooted desire to create a musical home for Allami’s work, and that of like-minded musicians with dynamic work ethics and a drive to constantly evolve and push the boundaries of local idioms and contemporary genres.

The label’s vision is for a consistent and sustainable support to enable wider recognition for artists such as Maurice Louca, so that they can immerse themselves in their artistic process with minimal concern over issues of creative integrity, independence and rights.

To make this new music more accessible to fans in the Arab world, Nawa is rolling out the Nawa Store, an online music shop for the Arab world and beyond, with emphasis on fair pricing and widespread accessibility. Alongside international physical and digital distribution the store will make Nawa’s releases easily accessible in CD, vinyl and digital download formats, allowing fans worldwide to show their support directly.

“Independence, self-sustainability and forward thinking are Nawa’s focus. It may be a long and difficult road, but it’s an adventure and a risk well worth taking” explains Khyam Allami.

Nawa has teamed up with ShopGo to power the store with tried and tested technology, marketing, and localised shipping and payment methods. ShopGo’s CEO Moe Ghashim explains: “our mission is to make it easy for any Arab entrepreneur to sell services and products to the Arab region. The potential is huge and ideas are everywhere. Nawa Recordings is exactly what we’re looking for!”
