Queen Rania's Education Call

posted on: Feb 5, 2010

Jordan’s Queen Rania claims education is the best way to fight poverty.

The queen – who was addressing over 800 delegates at a panel debate entitled “Rebuilding Education for the 21st Century”, at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Saturday (30.01.10) – stated new innovative ways of thinking need to be achieved.

She said: “There is no better equaliser in this world than education – it’s the greatest justice you can give people. We need to work harder to save millions of children from ignorance and poverty.”

She noted that over seven million cases of HIV and AIDS could be prevented in the next decade if more children were given an education.

The session focused on the need to prioritise education funds and find innovative solutions to better equip teachers, yet Rania said it was important that prestige be brought back to the teaching profession as a means to ensure quality education in the classroom.

She said: “Education is a balm that can sooth many ailments.”

There are currently 72 million children out of primary school in the world and $16 billion is needed to help, but only $3 billion has been raised so far.
