Sharab Rumman (Pomegranate Drink)

By: Habeeb Salloum/Arab America Contributing Writer
Pomegranates originated in Persia and are among the oldest fruits in the world. Some scholars even suggest that Adam and Eve were tempted by a pomegranate, not an apple, in the Garden of Eden. It could be for this reason that the Arab world is enamored with this fruit or simply because it is delicious as a drink, a tasty additive in chicken and vegetarian dishes, and its ruby red seeds tantalizing as a garnish.
The fact that Sharab Rumman appears in almost every medieval Arabic culinary text attesting to its popularity even over 1,000 years ago, this refreshing cold drink is a must on a hot summer day.
Originally it was made with water, I have redacted the recipe by replacing it with club soda to add a little bit of zest to a traditional drink it.
4 tablespoons pomegranate syrup (dibs rumman)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
6 cups (1.5 liters) club soda
4 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons pomegranate seeds
ice cubes
In a pitcher, place all the ingredients then thoroughly mix just before serving.
