Kuwait 2016: The Quest for Diversity
Background

Under the Patronage of the Emir of Kuwait, H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority is organizing the Kuwait Investment Forum 2016. The Forum reflects the goal of the Kuwaiti government to attract local and foreign investment by creating an attractive investment environment; simplifying investment procedures; and implementing a legislative structure that encourages and promotes investment into the national economy.

Kuwait’s Five-Year Development Plan 2015-2020 allocates $103 billion to develop the physical and technological infrastructure of the country and increase the competitiveness of Kuwait’s economy in the oil, electric power, water, transportation, and communication sectors. Other objectives include building a knowledge economy, strengthening the economy against market instability, developing the financial market, and adopting an economic policy that gives the leading role in economic development to the private sector. Recent legislation now provides for 100 percent ownership of business entities by foreign investors. Kuwait occupies a key geo-strategic position as a link between the Gulf, Central Asia and beyond, which underlines its importance as a regional and international financial and commercial center.

The Kuwait Investment Forum intends to set a domestic and international framework that highlights developments and opportunities in the Kuwaiti investment environment, while stimulating the economy through strengthened cooperation between government agencies and local and foreign investors.

The Forum will include government ministers, institutions and agencies, as well as hundreds of leading investors, banks, Kuwaiti, Arab and international financial and investment institutions, and representatives of the Arab and international media. The Forum will:
Highlight the major transformations underway in Kuwait;
Explain new laws and regulations;
Detail government plans in the fields of investment and development; and discuss the availability of project financing.
