Visa for Music: A Get Together for Arab, African Artists in Morocco
Visa for Music, the first edition of an event that aims to gather musicians and culture professionals from the Arab world and Africa, is set to take place between 12 and 15 November in Rabat, Morocco.
The event aims to play out as more than a festival with a series of musical line ups, as it will also explore films related to music, culture management trainings, networking events and a conference.
According to the website of the event, “Visa For Music aims to be the essential meeting place for professionals in the music industry at large: Moroccan and international, independent and major labels, producers and broadcasters, publishers and distributors, theatres and festivals, artistic directors, artists and groups, as well as professional organisations, civil societies, authors, institutions, foundations, media companies … Connections will also be established with a number of industries that are impacted by music, including the film industry and the advertising sector.”
The musical line-up includes several acts from Egypt such as: electronic musician Maurice Louca, traditional experimental quintet Alif Ensemble who are made up of Louca, Iraqi Khayam Allami and Palestinian Tamer Abu Ghazaleh among others, indie-rock band Massar Egbari and French-Folkloric fusion duo The Egyptian Project.
Others participating in the music line-up include Lebanese sensations Mashrou’ Leila, Mauritanian artist Noura Mint Seymali and Moroccan favorites Ribab Fusion.
Besides the musical line-up, Visa for Music will also feature a series of films following young artists engaging with street music. Among this selection is Omar El-Shamy’s Mahragan, a film delving into the world of Cairo’s shaabi street music scene.
The events will take place in Theater Mohamed V, Salle Renaissance and Club Renaissance.
