ADC Welcomes 2009 Anthony Shadid Internship Program Legal Associates
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) welcomes four law students who will be joining the ADC Legal Department as Legal Associates for Summer 2009. The students are part of the ADC-Research Institute (ADC-RI) Anthony Shadid Internship Program, named for the former ADC intern and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist (For more information, please see http://www.adc.org/internprogram/new/).
The law students will be spending the next 12-weeks at the ADC National Headquarters Building in Washington, DC, addressing all aspects of ADC’s legal work, including discrimination, employment, and immigration matters; public policy, outreach and coalition building. Additionally, each student is required to write a law review style paper with a minimum of 15-pages on any topic relevant to the legal issues addressed by ADC. The students are also asked to conduct a 30-minute presentation of their papers and are encouraged to publish their papers in legal journals.
The internship will conclude with the Second Annual ADC Ibn Rushd Moot Court Competition which includes legal briefs and accompanying oral arguments. The competition was named after the renowned jurist Ibn Rushd, also known as Averroes. Ibn Rushd was a Muslim Andalusian philosopher, jurist, and physician born in 1126 in Cordoba, Spain. ADC would like to extend its gratitude to Tefft Smith, Esq. and Kirkland & Ellis, LLP, for sponsoring the first ADC Ibn Rush Moot Court Competition in 2008.
ADC received applications from highly qualified law students across the United States for the four positions available this summer. This year’s summer Legal Associates are:

4) Mr. David Moreno from the University of Baltimore School of Law
