More than 80 DMC & NAAMA Michigan physicians turned out to meet and greet at the Ford Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, Michigan on April 30, 2009. This event hosted by DMC was planned with NAAMA in celebration of diversity and cultural awareness in healthcare delivery.

The event highlighted both DMC and NAAMA’s commitment to the large Arab American Community in Metro Detroit in providing health services and culturally competent quality care. It was also intended to announce the foundation of an ongoing partnership between DMC and NAAMA Michigan.

“There are more than 380 Arab American Physicians currently on staff at the Detroit Medical Center, and these physicians are ambassadors from the Arab American Community and form a bridge to fill the gap in health care delivery,” said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, NAAMA’s Executive Director at the event.

Mr. Mike Duggan, CEO of the Detroit Medical Center announced at the event that DMC is joining NAAMA as a group member and will be sponsoring membership dues to any active DMC staff physician who wants to join NAAMA.

The DMC is the first healthcare system to sponsor a group membership for Arab American physicians.

The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) is a non-profit, non-political, educational, and charitable organization for medical professionals of Arab heritage. It was established in 1975 and currently has 28 chapters and nearly 2,000 members across North America.

The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) is the leading academically integrated system in metropolitan Detroit and one of the largest health care providers in southeast Michigan. The DMC has more than 2,000 licensed beds and 3,000 affiliated physicians.
