TUNIS – An initiative called Arab Film Platform, to promote and develop the Arab film industry, was launched at a press conference during the Manarat Mediterranean Film Festival.
The project was announced by the director of the National Film and Image Center (CNCI), Chiraz Latiri, and by the coordinator of the Arab Film Institutes Commission (AFIC), Samia Abidi.
They said the platform aims to support film production in the Arab region and coproduction and technical cooperation among Arab countries.
“The programme also offers young film enthusiasts and professionals in the Arab world a place to network and reflect on a critical passage in the creative process of writing their films,” Latiri said.
AFIC will provide the platform and will offer seven selected groups the chance to participate in one of the partner initiatives in residencies and research workshops to support film projects.
Launched in 2018, AFIC brings together national film and image centres from Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt, and includes: The Dahshour Residence (Egypt), Al-Raoui (Jordan), the Lebanese Cinema Foundation (Lebanon), Film Femmes Francophone Méditerranée (Lebanon), Laré residence d’écriture de la ruche, documentaire (Morocco), Dox Box (Arab world), the Film Laboratory (Palestine), and the Southern Writing Workshop (Tunisia).
