Syrian Refugees Leading Successful Lives in Houston Despite Pushback

Years of surviving the Syrian civl war and struggling to obtain refugee statuses has made this family grateful for their new lives in Houston. Texas state lawmakers pushed back against helping refugees, but this family is a perfect example of how refugees are good for the community. With the help of Houston’s Syrian American Club, Kamal was able to get his children into school, obtain licenses and Medicaid, and help open a Mediterranean restaurant where he is now a head chef. With the dream of returning to regular lives, the Syrian refugees of Houston are making a positive impact on the city’s economy and ignoring the anti-refugee rhetoric that is permeating the media.
