Ftat, an Ancient Libyan Flatbread

Found in Misrata and Jebel Nafusa, Ftat (فتات) is an ancient Libyan Amazigh flatbread that originated within western Libya’s agricultural communities. The bread is made of a simple mix of flour and water and cooked on a hot flat surface. Its thin, layered technique distinguishes it within Libyan cuisine. Boujloud: Morocco’s Most Controversial Tradition

Despite its deep roots in Amazigh culture, Boujloud remains one of Morocco’s most misunderstood traditions. Also known as Bilmawen, it is an Amazigh folk celebration held in the days following Eid al-Adha. Participants wear costumes made from animal skins and move through neighborhoods to the rhythm of drums. Supporters describe it as a centuries-old cultural expression rooted in North Africa’s Indigenous heritage, symbolizing renewal and communal celebration. Others find the imagery disturbing.
