Closing Celebration & Interactive Pop-Up Photo Installation!
Join us for a night of joyful self-expression to celebrate the last weekend of في أمريكا (Made in USA) at Piano Craft Gallery!
Come for our closing celebration for صنع في أمريكا (Made in USA), featuring work by Feda Eid, the Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts 2023 Artist in Residence, with Teen Bridge Artists Jacob DePalm, Elian Feliz, Hajar El Ayoubi, Rose Gelin, and Marie Liza Manigat! We’ll be celebrating the hard work of our Artist in Residence and our teen Artist In Residence Fellows, and cultivating a space for joy and self-expression in the community. Come for food, music, and our interactive pop-up photo installation!
Guests are encouraged to dress up for the celebration! What aspects of your culture or identity do you have to assimilate or diminish in everyday life? In this celebration, we hope to create a space where people feel safe to explore boundless self-expression. Come in an outfit that extravagantly celebrates who you are!
The exhibition is an exploration of home, nationalism, borders, pride, and the creation of all things made in the USA, featuring work from Feda Eid’s في أمريكا (Made in USA) series alongside the work of a cohort of young artists from Boston. Through self-portraits, still lifes, and community portraits, the exhibition interrogates what it means to be American in the “melting pot” of assimilation, discrimination, surveillance, orientalism, and the dominating negative representations of marginalized groups perpetuated by the state, societal norms and popular media. What will we continue to plant here? What is the future of all things made in the USA? Do we have the courage to change, to transform, to stitch a new tapestry of collective liberation?
About Feda Eid:
Feda Eid is a Lebanese-American visual artist living on occupied, unceded territory of the Wampanoag, Nipmuc, and Massachusett People (Quincy,MA). Her work explores heritage, tradition, culture, identity, and the often tense but beautiful space between what is said, what is felt, and what is lost in translation. She captures these emotions through her bold use of color, textiles, and adornment linking the past and present. As the daughter of Lebanese parents who fled the country’s civil war in 1982, Feda is guided by her family’s journey and her own childhood growing up as an Arab and Muslim in the US. She believes in the telling of personal narratives to broaden our perspectives and to ultimately help us feel the universal emotions that connect us all. About the Artist in Residence Program:
The Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts’ Artist in Residence program brings in a Boston-based artist each year to create a body of work with thoughtful community engagement at its core, in collaboration with a group of art-passionate teens from our Teen Bridge program. Teen Bridge is a year-round, multi-year program combining art education and experience, life skills, mentorship, job training, and employment, for student artists in our community-based programs.
