Arab Idol! Loyola’s Middle East Peace Studies Program Hosts International Charity Fundraising Concert

Arab Idol is the most watched television event in the Middle East and North Africa.
Loyola University New Orleans acclaimed Middle East Peace Studies program proudly welcomes Arab Idol superstar Ameer Dandan and Life’s Goodwill Ambassador Ahmed Fahmi with special guest the dance troupe Turab Beladi for a charity fundraising concert held at Loyola. Dandan, Fahmi and Turab Beladi will perform at concerts in 12 cities across the USA including New Orleans. Proceeds of each concert will be used to provide MRI and x-ray equipment for hospitals in the West Bank and Syria.
The Middle East Peace Studies program at Loyola University New Orleans will host a Charity Concert event on behalf of “Life for Relief and Development” on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 at the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, Loyola University, 6363 Saint Charles Ave. The hall opens at 6:30 and the event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Boleto Express, where the concert is listed as “Ameer Dandan Concert.” The Loyola community may purchase tickets by emailing Sabrine Mohamad at samohama@my.loyno.edu.
“Respecting life and the dignity of all human beings is a part of the Jesuit tradition. We are extremely happy to carry out this tradition through our curriculum in Loyola’s Middle East Peace Studies program and by emphasizing social engagement with people of all cultures,” said Behrooz Moazami, Patrick G. O’Keefe Distinguished Professor of History and chair of the Middle East Peace Studies program at Loyola. “Through this concert, we will celebrate Arab Middle Eastern music and culture while hoping for the peace and happiness of the people of the region.”
Ameer Dandan is an Arab-Palestinian (born in Israel) superstar hailing from a long line of famous musicians. In February 2017 he competed against another Palestinian and a Yemeni singer in Arab Idol, the most watched television event in the Middle East and North Africa, and took second place. Ahmed Fahmi is an Egyptian singer and actor who is host of Arab Idol. Fahmi’s imaginative and sensitive style of singing took his career to the international stage, allowing him to be recognized worldwide. Click here to see Ahmed Fahmi.
Special Guests. Turab Beladi is a Palestinian folk dance male group based in Michigan. The group performs Dabka, a folk dance of the Levant and surrounding areas. Dabka combines line dancing and circle dancing and is performed at festivals and weddings. The English translation of Turab Beladi is “the soul of my homeland.”
