GETTING TO THE ARCHWAY

The Dumbo Archway is a public plaza underneath the Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It’s on Water St between Anchorage Place and Adams St. Given construction in the adjacent plaza, the best way to arrive is from Adams Street. You can use “28 Adams Street” for the purposes of mapping.

THE MUSIC!

BASSEL & THE SUPERNATURALS. Bassel & The Supernaturals tells the story of Bassel Almadani’s experience as a first generation Syrian-American using soulful melodies, funk inspired grooves, and captivating lyrics regarding love, loss, and the war in Syria. Deeply inspired by Otis Redding, Bassel uses the stage as a vehicle to engage audiences in over 100 different cities across North America. In addition to performing in major festivals, performance halls, concert series, and clubs, the group works closely with organizations on events and residencies that build awareness and empathy for Syrian refugees. A substantial portion of their proceeds benefit the Karam Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization focused on building a better future for Syria. The group has performed on stages including SXSW, the John F. Kennedy Center, Summerfest, and Millennium Park, and supporting internationally touring artists such as Youssou N’Dour, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Emancipator, The Dandy Warhols, Sinkane, and many others.

THE ART!

SAMAYA GLAZIER. Samaya Glazier is a young passionate artist based in Brooklyn, New York. In elementary school, her work was the only one of her school to be chosen to be entered into a city-wide contest hosted by the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. As Samaya and her work has matured, she tends to gravitate toward portraits of people and animals. While she has an uncanny ability to copy works of the masters by sight, she loves to create her own art which is expressive with color. Her favorite mediums are watercolor and acrylic as well as multimedia projects. Samaya is a brain tumor survivor and after almost losing her sight because of that, she is now in full recovery and has regained 100% of her sight. In 2021 and 2022, her work was admitted into the Raymond Wood Art Contest for Brain tumor survivors. She won in her category both years running and was able to put the money awarded in her college fund. Samaya is grateful to Creatively Wild and her primary teacher Sally Novak for teaching her and instilling in her confidence and love of the craft.
