About This Event

In honor of International Palestinian Children’s Day, Mississippi for a Just World (MSJW) is hosting a special documentary screening of The Voice of Hind Rajab, the Academy Award®-nominated film by Kaouther Ben Hania.

On January 29, 2024, 5-year-old Hind Rajab was trapped in a car under heavy Israeli military fire in Gaza. Her emergency calls reached volunteers with the Palestine Red Crescent Society, who worked desperately to calm her and coordinate a rescue. The rescue efforts were obstructed by Israeli military checkpoints and the intentional targeting of aid and healthcare workers trying to reach her.

In The Voice of Hind Rajab, Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania (Four DaughtersThe Man Who Sold His Skin) blends the actual phone recordings from the incident with a re-telling of the story of the emergency workers racing against time and the emotional toll of trying to save a child under impossible conditions.

By focusing on one life, and on the volunteers risking their own lives to rescue civilians, Ben Hania brings humanity and urgency to a war that has killed or caused the death, injury, and displacement of more than 2,000,000 Palestinians, according to a recent United Nations estimate. The film was made in partnership and collaboration with Hind’s family and the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged to help us plan for attendance and seating.

About MSJW

Mississippi for a Just World (MSJW) is a human rights organization based in Mississippi that bridges the fight to build a more just world from the Deep South to the Global South. Our goal is to be a living, breathing movement for human rights, deeply rooted in the enduring legacy of Mississippi’s human liberation struggle. Across borders and cultures, irrespective of our different political, cultural, and social backgrounds, we are fighting for a world where every individual is empowered, where justice prevails, and where human dignity is non-negotiable.

MSJW was born in 2024 in response to the growing Palestine solidarity movement in Mississippi. We sought to coordinate, inform, and resource the grassroots energy behind human rights movements and anti-war protests across the state. Today, MSJW partners with local, national, and international organizations to train, educate, advocate, research, and base-build towards our shared liberation.
