Arabian Gulf League (AGL): Sharjah Defeats Fujairah 4-2 On Opening Night of New Season in the Emirates

On Friday night Sharjah FC, last season’s Arabian Gulf League champs, opened a new campaign to defend their title against Fujairah FC.

 

Brazilian forward Welliton scored the first goal of the match for Sharjah in the 21st minute.

 

In the 37th minute, Swedish forward Samuel Armenteros tied the match 1-1 netting a goal for Fujairah.

 

In the second half, Tunisian midfielder Firas Ben Larbi scored a goal to give Fujairah a 2-1 lead.

 

The match was knotted at 2 until the 90th minute when Brazilian midfielder Igor Coronado knocked in a goal to give Sharjah a 3-2 lead.

 

Brazilian midfielder Caio put the match away for Sharjah, scoring a goal on a penalty kick 8 minutes into stoppage time.

 

In other matches around the league, Al Wahda dominated Hatta 6-0, Al Dhafra downed Ajman 4-1, and Bani Yas knocked off Al Wasl 4-`1.

 

In Saturday’s action, Shabab Al Ahli Dubai will travel to Kalba, while Al Ain takes on Khor Fakkan in the two early matches. Al Nasr will host Al Jazira in a late night match at Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai.
